Is it meant to be cute? Clever? A branding gimmick with a smirk? Did we use it because we had that cool newsboy image sitting around looking for work?
Actually, no.
We chose the word very deliberately.
“Cranky,” as we use it, does not mean irritable or combative. It means earned skepticism — the raised eyebrow that comes from having sat through enough meetings, slogans, reinventions, and performance rituals to recognize the pattern when it walks in wearing a new hat. It is awareness with a memory. A refusal to swallow every shiny idea whole simply because it is presented with confidence and a slide deck.
Paired with that is audacity — not bravado, not noise, but the quiet willingness to move anyway. To raise a hand. To finish the draft. To speak one sentence more than comfort recommends. Crankiness keeps you awake. Audacity keeps you visible.
